GTA 6 is on track for a record launch. According to new estimates from data firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 pre-orders have passed 7.7 million copies on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, worth about $751 million. Remarkably, that is with two weeks still to go before the game arrives on November 19, 2026.
Below, you will find the full numbers, the split between PlayStation and Xbox, how GTA 6 compares with other big launches and what you need to know before launch day. In addition, we explain how to pay for the game without a bank card.
GTA 6 pre-orders at a glance
GTA 6 Pre-Orders by the Numbers
Sensor Tower updated its tracker on November 3. By then, it estimated 7.71 million GTA 6 pre-orders across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, after cancellations and refunds. It also put the value of those pre-orders at about $751 million.
That works out to roughly $97 per copy. Since the standard edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99 in the US, the average suggests that many players chose the more expensive edition. The table below sums up the estimate.
GTA 6 pre-order estimate by platform
| Platform | Estimated pre-orders | Share |
|---|---|---|
| PS5Leader | 5.74 million | About 74% |
| Xbox Series X|S | 1.97 million | About 26% |
| Total | 7.71 million | 100% |
These are estimates, not official numbersThe figures come from Sensor Tower’s own data model. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not shared official pre-order numbers, and the estimate can change as the model updates.
PS5 Leads With Three Out of Four Pre-Orders
The platform split is the most striking part of the estimate. About three out of every four GTA 6 pre-orders are on PS5, while Xbox Series X|S accounts for roughly one in four.
There are a few likely reasons. First, Sony holds the marketing rights for GTA 6, so PlayStation features heavily in ads and trailers. Second, the PS5 has a much larger player base than Xbox Series X|S. Moreover, Kotaku noted that the lower price of the base PS5 may also have helped.

Meanwhile, Xbox has found other ways to stay in the conversation, such as its own GTA-themed promotions. Still, the numbers show that PS5 will be the main home for GTA 6 at launch.
What Drove the Rise in GTA 6 Pre-Orders
Pre-orders did not grow evenly. According to Kotaku, interest jumped after Rockstar’s extended gameplay reveal, which gave fans their longest look yet at Vice City, Jason and Lucia. As a result, many players who had been waiting decided to lock in their copy.
In addition, the marketing push has grown stronger as launch approaches. Sony’s partnership means PlayStation ads, store banners and bundles appear almost everywhere. Meanwhile, every new trailer, screenshot or leak brings another wave of attention on social media, which keeps GTA 6 at the top of store charts.
Finally, the pre-order bonuses play a role too. The Vintage Vice City Pack and a free month of GTA+ give players a small but clear reason to buy early instead of waiting.
How GTA 6 Compares With Other Big Launches
To put the estimate in context, it helps to look at earlier record launches. Before its 2020 release, Cyberpunk 2077 announced more than 8 million pre-orders. However, that number was official, and it included PC copies, which made up more than half, as well as physical boxes.
GTA 6, by contrast, launches only on two consoles, with no PC version at first. In other words, GTA 6 is close to Cyberpunk’s record on consoles alone, even before launch week. In addition, analysts at Piper Sandler expect about 45 million GTA 6 sales in its launch window, which would make it one of the biggest entertainment launches ever.
For reference, GTA 5 made more than $800 million in its first 24 hours back in 2013. If the pre-order trend continues, GTA 6 could pass that figure very quickly.
When GTA 6 Pre-Load and Launch Happen
If you have pre-ordered the digital version, you can start pre-loading on November 12, one week before release. Pre-loading lets you download the game in advance, so you can start playing as soon as it unlocks.

The physical version is also available from November 12. Keep in mind that it comes as a box with a download code rather than a full game disc, so you will still need to download the game.
- November 12: digital pre-load opens, and physical boxes become available.
- November 19: GTA 6 launches worldwide on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Before November 20: purchases include the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Digital pre-orders: also include one free month of GTA+.
Rockstar has not yet confirmed the exact unlock time on launch day. Therefore, it is a good idea to finish the pre-load early and keep an eye on official announcements in the days before November 19.
When Official Numbers Will Arrive
For now, Sensor Tower’s figures are the best public guide to GTA 6 pre-orders. However, the real numbers will only become clear when Take-Two shares them, most likely in a future earnings report or a launch-week announcement.
Keep in mind, too, that Sensor Tower changed its model in October to weight sales by country, which slightly shifted the totals and the platform split. Therefore, treat the 7.7 million figure as a strong signal rather than an exact count. Even so, every estimate so far points the same way: GTA 6 is set for one of the biggest launches in gaming history.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Editions and Prices
GTA 6 comes in two editions. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 in the US, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. Prices vary by country, so check the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store in your region.
The Ultimate Edition adds an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, outfits and extra content tied to the story of Jason and Lucia. Based on the average price in Sensor Tower’s estimate, it seems that many players have chosen this version. On the other hand, the Standard Edition includes the full game, so it is a solid choice if you only want the main story and online mode.
Is a GTA 6 Pre-Order Worth It Now
With two weeks to go, many players are still deciding. Pre-ordering now has a few clear benefits:
- Pre-load on November 12, so you avoid a huge download on launch day.
- The Vintage Vice City Pack, included with purchases before November 20.
- A free month of GTA+ with digital pre-orders.
- No stock worries, since digital copies never sell out.
However, if you are unsure, you can also wait for the first reviews. Since the game is digital and the bonus pack lasts until November 20, buying in launch week still gives you most of the extras. Above all, make sure you have enough free storage on your console before pre-loading.
What to Expect on Launch Day
With millions of players ready to start at the same moment, launch day will be busy. In practice, that means a few things are worth preparing for:
- Free up storage early. GTA 6 is a huge open-world game, so clear space on your console before pre-load opens.
- Pre-load on November 12. A full download on launch night could take hours if servers are busy.
- Update your console and check that your PlayStation or Xbox account works before the big day.
- Expect busy online services. Online features may be slow at first, so start with the story if servers struggle.
Above all, plan your evening a little ahead. A few minutes of preparation now can save a long wait when the game finally unlocks.
