Valve has released a new treasure for Dota 2. The Trove of Terror arrived on October 7 with a spooky, monster-themed look, and it brings the first Arcana of 2026, made for Tidehunter.
Here is what you’ll find inside the Trove of Terror, the new gifting rules and how to pay for chests with Steam Wallet funds.
What Is Inside the Trove of Terror
The treasure contains 17 hero sets in total. Fifteen of them are Immortal-rarity sets, and the remaining two are Arcanas. Heroes such as Pudge, Terrorblade, Tiny, Marci, Oracle and Death Prophet get new looks.
Each chest costs roughly five dollars. As usual, the rarest items drop least often, so most players open several chests to complete a collection.

Tidehunter Arcana Maw of the Megalodon
The headline item is Maw of the Megalodon, the first Arcana Tidehunter has ever received. It turns the hero into a giant shark-like monster with custom animations, new ability effects and fresh voice lines.
In addition, the Arcana has several styles that you can switch between. It’s an Ultra Rare drop, so expect to open a fair number of chests before it appears.
Drow Ranger Arcana Returns
The second Arcana is a rerun. Drow Ranger’s Arcana from 2021 comes back with a darker style called Sepulchral Stalker, alongside the original Dread Retribution look.
So if you missed it the first time, this treasure is a second chance to get it.
Can You Trade Trove of Terror Items
Update, October 12: Valve has changed the rules. At launch, almost nothing from the Trove of Terror could be gifted. On October 10, Valve said this was a mistake: a block meant to stop gift exploits had been applied to every item by accident.
Now every Trove of Terror set can be gifted to a friend once within 30 days. For sets you already had, the 30 days started with the update. For new chests, they start when you open the chest. Each item shows a “Giftable until” date, so you can check how much time is left.
Keep in mind that Steam gifting has its own rule: the friend usually needs to be on your friends list for some time before you can send a gift. So if you plan to give a set to a new friend, add them early.
Trading and the Steam Community Market are still closed. You can’t swap duplicates with other players or sell them, and once the 30 days pass, a duplicate stays in your inventory for good. As a result, there is still no Market shortcut to the Tidehunter Arcana. You either open chests yourself or receive it as a gift from a friend.
Bonus Rewards for Opening Chests
The more chests you open, the more extras you unlock:
| Chests opened | Bonus reward |
|---|---|
| 12 | Obscene Eye Ball (Tormentor skin) |
| 40 | R’shan the Eternal (Roshan set) |
On top of that, Dotesports reports that bad luck protection guarantees an Arcana by your 50th chest.
Pay for Chests With Steam Wallet Funds
You buy Trove of Terror chests with your Steam Wallet. A Steam Gift Card is a simple way to top it up, especially if you don’t want to save a bank card on your account.
Just choose a card in the same currency as your Steam account. Once you redeem the code, the balance is ready for chests or any other purchase on Steam.
