Bitcoin Falls Below $82K After Hotter US Inflation Data

The Bitcoin price slipped under $82,000 after US inflation came in above forecasts. See what happened, the key numbers and what to watch next.

Bitcoin price falls below 82K after US inflation data

The Bitcoin price is under pressure again. On October 14, the coin opened near $83,100, then slipped below $82,000 after new US inflation figures came in higher than expected. Ethereum followed, dropping to around $2,430.

It’s the second dip in three days. Here’s what triggered it, the numbers behind the move and what traders are watching next.

Next big dateFed meeting, late October

What Happened on October 14

The trigger was the US Consumer Price Index for September. Headline inflation rose 3.7% year on year, slightly above the 3.6% analysts expected and up from 3.4% in August. Core inflation, which leaves out food and energy, also beat forecasts.

Hotter inflation makes a Federal Reserve rate hike more likely. According to CME’s FedWatch tool, traders now see roughly even odds of a hike at the Fed’s late-October meeting. Earlier in the week, those odds were closer to 20%. Higher rates usually weigh on riskier assets, and crypto tends to react quickly.

A Rough Week Before the Data

The market was already nervous. On October 12, Bitcoin briefly fell to about $81,400. Around $771 million in leveraged trades were wiped out that day, and almost 90% of them were bets on rising prices.

On top of that, US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw roughly $681 million in outflows in the week to October 9. Analysts also point to a strong dollar and higher bond yields.

Even so, the bigger picture is mixed. Bitcoin is still up about 8% over the past month. However, it remains roughly 28% lower than a year ago and well below its October 2025 record of $126,198.

Buying Bitcoin Without a Bank Card

Price swings like this are a reminder to only put in what you can afford to lose. Many beginners start with a small, fixed amount instead of trying to time the bottom. Our guide on how much crypto to start with explains how to size it.

If you want BTC in your Binance account without linking a bank card, a Binance Gift Card BTC is the simplest route. The card comes in small steps from 0.5 USD up to around 200 USD, so it suits a careful first buy.
