Bitcoin starts the week under pressure. On October 26, the price slipped below $80,000 and traded at around $79,900, after briefly getting close to $85,000 the week before. Traders are now waiting for the next decision from the US Federal Reserve.
The move comes after a run of withdrawals from US Bitcoin funds. As a result, Bitcoin below $80,000 has become the main talking point in crypto at the start of a busy week.
At a glance
Why Bitcoin Is Falling
Two things are weighing on the price. First, US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $773 million in just two days, ending a short streak of inflows. BlackRock’s and Fidelity’s funds made up most of the outflows on October 22.
Second, many traders had bet on further gains with borrowed money. When the price dipped, about $154 million in positions were closed within 24 hours, and most of them were bets on a rising price.
Key Dates This Week
Several events could move Bitcoin in the coming days:
Wednesday, October 28The Fed announces its interest rate decision at 19:00 CET, with a press conference at 19:30.
Thursday, October 29The US releases fresh inflation data, known as the PCE report.
Friday, October 30Bitcoin options worth about $11 billion expire.
Markets mostly expect the Fed to keep rates at 3.75% to 4.00%. Even so, any hint of a rate rise in December could add more pressure on risky assets like Bitcoin.
What Analysts Are Watching
While Bitcoin stays below $80,000, many traders see $79,000 as the key support level. If Bitcoin closes a day below $79,000, some analysts expect a move towards $75,000. On the upside, $82,000 is the first level to clear, followed by $85,000.
